Quick video showing some techniques you can use when applying reverb to your kick drums. The video shows how I use reverb to create a bit of atmosphere in the intro. The reverb is set up on a send with an EQ after the reverb so the EQ doesn't affect the low frequencies. The effect creates depth and helps build tension into the first breakdown. The other way you can go about using it is applying just a short reverb on your kick to add ambience. It is important to realise that every sound we hear in real life has some sort of reverb on it. Every sound which we hear, reflects of something, therefore; reverb is natural to us. Often kick drums can be quite dry and dry sounds aren't natural to human beings so adding a touch of subtle reverb to your kick can help your mixes. Also realise that adding too much reverb to your kick can quickly muddy up your mixes.
